Application

A couple of weeks ago, I was making breakfast for Everly and myself. I found a recipe for some yummy apple cinnamon oatmeal. I follow the directions carefully, and once it’s done, I pour it into a bowl and dip out a small serving for Everly. We both enjoy our breakfast and are pretty much finished when it hits me...I put honey in the oatmeal!!! It was too late to do anything at this point. Everly had pretty much eaten all the oatmeal I had given her. I immediately start thinking how I could’ve done this. I know you don’t give honey to babies. When I’ve made oatmeal in the past, I wait and add any sweetener until after I’ve gotten Everly her serving. I was just following the directions, not think anything about it.

This makes me think of our walk with Christ. It’s so easy to read God’s Word, but when it comes to actually applying it our life, we fall a little short. Sometime it may seem that we can get away with not applying it to our lives but other times were quickly hit with the consequences.

Not long after she ate her oatmeal, she spit up/threw up twice and was fussy for the rest of the day. I had followed the directions thinking I was doing what I was supposed to be doing, but I wasn’t applying it to my life. The Bible isn’t meant to only be read, but to be applied.

How many times do we sit in church listening to the sermon thinking about how good it is, but the moment we pull out of the parking lot, we forget what we just heard. Application is so important with God’s Word. It helps us. It guides us. It’s a wonderful gift God has given to us that we really take for granted.

P.S. We apologize for not posting last week and being behind a day this week. Sometimes life gets a little crazy. We hope you all have a blessed weekend!!
